Tips When Buying An Air Purifier

With the rise in allergy sufferers, it is no wonder that air purifiers are growing in popularity. However, there are so many models available. How do you make sure that you are buying the right air purifier for your home? These air purifier buying tips should help you successfully choose the right model for you.
One of the most important things you should do when you are buying an air purifier is to figure out the square footage of the room or rooms where you will be using it. Don’t take a wild guess. This is really an important measurement. A purifier that is designed for a smaller room won’t adequately clean a room that is too big for it. To figure out the square footage of a room, measure the length of one side of the room and the width of another side. Multiply the two numbers together. This is the square footage. Once you know this number, you can look at the purifier’s information to be sure it is supposed to clean a room that is at least as big as your room, if not larger.
Next, check to see whether the air purifier you are considering is designed to clean the pollutants that are in your home. Not all purifiers clean tobacco, pollen, dust, or pet dander. If your home has all of these pollutants, you will need to look for an air ionizer or a combination HEPA filter/air ionizer in your purifier.
Another important consideration for most people shopping for an air purifier is the loudness of different models. Usually, ionizer models are much quieter than HEPA filter models.
However, ionizers must be used in conjunction with a vacuum cleaner to be effective, since they do not actually remove dust and other pollutants from the room. Ionizers simply make all of the pollutants so heavy that they fall from the air and drop to the ground.
Before you make a final decision, you should also consider the life of the filter in the air purifier. Replacement filters can be quite expensive. Ionizers do not need any filters, but they do need to be cleaned quite often.
Finally, you should take a look at how often air is circulated through the air purifier and back into the room. The best purifiers circulate the room’s air at least 5 times an hour. To find out how many times the model you are considering circulates air, look for the ACH rating, which stands for air changes per hour.

Air Purifier Info For Dummies

If you are in the dark about what air purifiers are and what they actually do, air purifier info for dummies will help you distiguish what type of air purifier you need in your home.

Many people have at least thought about the notion of improving their indoor air

quality, but quickly abandon the idea because of the

confusion surrounding the topic of air purifiers. Hopefully,

after reading this article, you will have a working

knowledge of air purifiers and how they work.

First of all, lets define the term air purifier. An air

purifier is a mechanism that is designed to free air from

contaminants. Different techniques are used to render this

task and these include filters, adsorbents, and

electrostatic charges. Asthma sufferers, those that have

allergies, and those with other respitory problems have the

most to gain from an air purifier.

Air purifiers work by drawing these contaminants

(pollutants, particles, and pollen) from within the air that

we are breathing.

Harmful air is pulled into the air

purifier by the inlet grill. Some air purifiers have a

pre-filter that helps contain the larger of the airborne

particles. Air will then travel through the carbon filter

which will help reduce unpleasant odors. Then the air will

pass through another filter that is composed of many tightly

woven fibers. Finally, the fan redirects the filtered air

throughout the room.

There are several factors that must be taken into

consideration to determine how much expense will be involved

in the purchase of an air purifier. When considering cost,

you must look into how much the replacement filters will run

as well as how often they will need changed. What may appear

to be a bargain up front on a less expensive model, could

potentially cost you much more later on down the road. Also,

it is important to see if you can order the replacement

filters in bulk at a discounted rate. It is always a good

idea to find out from the manufacturer what the estimated

electrical usage will be and whether or not the air purifier

runs on a cycle or does it have to stay on constantly.

At the end of the day, it is up to you to decide if an air

purifier is right for you and your family, but hopefully the

information contained here has given you a working knowledge

on what exactly air purifiers are and how they work.

Are You Thinking About Buying A UV Air Purifier?

UV also known as Ultra Violet, works by using radiation.

Sounds odd right?

Well, in a way I suppose it is. But note this, the same radiation that kills germs, pollen, bacteria, smoke, is not the same kind of radiation that will hurt you. It’s a smaller, controlled “substance” which allows the “germs” to flow into the air purifier and get zapped with the UV ray light. These UV rays won’t even irritate your skin or anything like that. The UV light tube is specifically made to be used only for destroying the germs in and around your home.
Most of these purifiers are quite small, they will clean either one to two rooms or one floor of your residence. However, I have seen a few on the market that purify the air in you entire home. These units are a little smaller than an air conditioner you place in your window and definitely not as bulky. I like the UV purifiers because they always get rated really highly by people, but they won’t cost you an arm and a leg. This is one of the most important aspect for me. I’m completely willing to pay a few hundred for something that will help me, but for me, the product has to have gotten some good reviews from the consumers. It’s a good idea in general to always look for reviews on products before buying anything online or off!
One of my favorite Ultra Violet air purifiers is the Sharper Image SI830 UV Ionic Air Purifier. It costs about $150 but again, it was well worth it. Personally I love anything Sharper Image, and anything I have ever bought that was Sharper Image has always been of high quality! This machine is designed to reduce germs in the air, to do this, it features a built in Germicidal UV-C Sterilamp! Here are a few specs included in this incredible machine:
- Next-generation Ionic Breeze has a stronger electrostatic field and 3 charged collection blades separated by 2 driver blades, improving its particle capture rate
- Ionic Breeze technology moves air silently, without the annoying noise of a fan
- Dual-purpose air purifier reduces bacteria, mold spores and viruses in the air it cleans, using germ-killing UV-C light
- Only 13 watts to run 24/7 (plus 15W Sterilamp) and no filters to replace means you save money
- Ozone-Guard on front grill converts by-product ozone to oxygen.
- Includes UV-C Germicidal Sterilamp with 8,000-hour effective life
- Dual-purpose air purifier reduces bacteria, mold spores and viruses in the air it cleans, using germ-killing UV-C light.

How To Choose An Air Purifier

Today’s air purifier technology is so complex, most consumers do not know a thing about how it works and what to look for in an air purifier. I will explain some of the common terms you probably hear when buying an air purifier and what to look for.
MERV Rating
The MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) Rating is a standard used by most air purifier companies to measure the efficiency of their air purifiers. It is an industry standard among air purifier companies so you can safely use this rating to compare different brands of air purifiers.
The MERV rating is from 1 to 16. Generally speaking the higher the merv rating, the more efficient is the air purifier. Most air purifier manufacturers will indicate the MERV rating on the box itself. A rating between 6 to 12 is considered good and should meet your needs.
The CADR Level
The CADR (Clean Air ) Level is another industry standard used to measure the rate of delivered clean air. So how do the air purifier manufacturers measure the clean air delivery rate and arrive at the numbers? It is measured by measuring the processing air volume of the 3 most common contaminants in our atmosphere. They are smoke, dust and pollen.
For each contaminant, the higher the CADR level, the more efficient it is at processing the contaminant. So you should pick an air purifier with high CADR numbers for all three components.
Another factor that you should consider before purchasing an air purifier is the air filter. This is one of the items you will need to replace often and so you may want to check the prices of an replacement air filter.
There are also some retailers who sell generic air filters. They are generally cheaper than original air filters but quality wise may not be that good.

My recommendation would depend on whether you are considering to purchase a more expensive air purifier or a cheaper one. If you are going to purchase a better air purifier, then use original air filters as they are more reliable and will not damage your air purifier. On the other hand, using OEM air filters may not be a bad thing if you are purchasing a cheaper air purifier.

Ricky Lim highly recommend using air cleaners. Visit his site for more information on HEPA air cleaners
