Touch Tanks For Kids is a federally recognized nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving science education in our schools.

How do they do it?  Touch Tanks For Kids provides a living breathing classroom.  Going to the ocean may not be possible for many classrooms in our country, let alone being able to see actual ocean life up close is a little difficult.

Imagine being in a classroom in Iowa and being able to physically touch a star fish, or observe a lobster up close.  Touch Tanks for Kids provides this experience in an easy to maintain, classroom aquarium.  The hope is that this interaction will breed a lifetime of interest in the ocean and maintaining it’s habitats.

Established in 2005 as a partnership between an elementary school teacher at the West Harpswell Island schol on the coast of Central Maine and Marine Ecological Habitats, a manufacturing plant in Biddeford, Maine, Touch Tanks For Kids is a federally recognized 501 c 3 nonprofit created in response to the needs of the education community.

Touch Tanks provide participants with numerous educational, social and environmental benefits.  They are unique, durable, lont-lasting, adaptable, portable, low maintenance, and accurately represent natual aquatic habitats that provide participants with a hands on learning tool.  People of all ages enjoy Touch Tanks in many educational settings with students and teachers reporting increased knowledge of natual aquatic habitats and a greater understanding of how our actions affect those ecosystems.

Touch Tanks provide participants with unlimited educational opportunities.  The hands-on experience connects students to nature and supports the knowledge learned from textbooks in a real way.  The Touch Tank is the perfect size for classroom use and public display and you are able to customize your order to fit almost any situation.

Touch Tanks For Kids is a partner of Greenville Eco Family in our joint venture to promote, to increase the knowledge about sound environmental practices and raise awareness of current environmental issues.

Touch Tanks For Kids making a difference in the world.

Many great educators that specialize in Science tell me that students comprehend more and stay interested longer with interactive instruction.

Children must do science, to learn science Mr. Waldo, an elementary school teacher in Maine,  explained to me prior to going into detail about the many interactive activities in his classroom.  His excitement buried any reluctance that I had about the touch tank project that I became involved with to make amends for all the terrible things I did to the seas during my time in the Navy.  Polluting the environment by dispursing trash into the ocean while on duty in the Pacific Ocean.

I have learned since then that the Earth is living on borrowed time. Common household and commercial practices have produced devastating effects.

Fortunately, unlimited opportunities exist as a result. Hope exists because ingenuity focused on historical reference has abundant possibility.  Hope that I observed when I visited Mr. Waldo’s Science class the afternoon of March 7, 2009 at Berwick Academy in Southern Maine. Luckily, after I apologized for my past destructive actions, the students from Mr. Summer’s fourth grade class forgave me, and for that, I am thankful.

I was then able to spend a wonderful afternoon observing the impact that Touch Tanks For Kids can bring to virtually any learning environmet.

The touch tank provides a living, breathing ocean environment right in the classroom.  The students are able to interact with the display and really learn about that bioshere.

The interactive aspect of Touch Tanks For Kids provides a spark of knowledge that can burn into the flame of discovery.  Who knows what world problems may one day be solved by these young minds.

Interactive education and Touch Tanks For Kids is making a difference in our world.
