Marine science professor Dr. Mark Green explains Ocean Acidification as one of the biggest environmental challenges. Dr. Green teaches at St. Joseph’s College of Maine and has written many articles and lectured widely about the “serious and immediate threat” posed by the rising pH level of the ocean.

Ocean acidification characterized by the ongoing decrease in pH of the world’s oceans, caused by their uptake of  extra  greenhouse gases(mostly carbon dioxide) created during the industrial era.

Greenhouse gases absorb and emit radiation. Greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, sulfur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and more.
